Smart Transformer Connected to Medium Voltage Grid Through LCL Filter

Smart Transformer (ST) is a distribution transformer based on power converters and Medium Frequency Transformer (MFT) with communication functionalities. In this paper, the ST model using an LCL filter as an interface with the MV grid is proposed to reduce the current total harmonic distortion (THD). Furthermore, the ST controller design is presented and investigated. Finally, simulation results are carried out, and discussed in terms of DC-bus voltage regulation, near-unity power factor operation, currents THD, and reactive power compensation.
